20 Years NATO Contribution to the Regional Security in Southeast Europe and the Black Sea Region

The George C. Marshall Association – Bulgaria with the support of NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division, Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Bulgaria, US Embassy in Bulgaria and Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Bulgaria organises a panel discussion: 20 Years NATO Contribution to the Regional Security in Southeast Europe and the Black Sea Region: Bulgaria’s Perspective of the Chances and Challenges on the Way Ahead. The occasion for the event is the 20th anniversary of Bulgaria’s official request for NATO membership and it is going to be under the auspices of Mr. Petar Stoyanov, President of the Republic of Bulgaria within 1997 – 2002.

The purpose of the discussion is to underline NATO’s contribution to the regional security during the past 20 years and analyse the challenges that Bulgaria and the Alliance are facing nowadays.

Among the participants in the panel discussion are Mr. Stefan Petrov – Caretaker Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Jamie Shea – NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges, Mr. Robert Pszczel – NATO Headquarters Representative, Col. James Crowhurst – Defense attaché, US Embassy in Bulgaria, Mr. Thorsten Geissler – Head of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Bulgaria. Moderator will be Dr. Velizar Shalamanov, Caretaker Minister of Defence within August – November, 2014.
